COURTESY POST for NEMA:

SHADOW-FAX*

ShadowFax is a 9-10 yr old neutered male who was grossly overweight when he came into the NEMA rescue.  He is now at a healthy weight and ready to find his forever home.  Because of his former problem with weight, he needs to be fed two meals a day and kept to a healthy diet.  He is good with other dogs and with children.  Cats are unknown.  He is available through the Norwegian Elkhound Minutemen Association.  Click here to visit their website and download the adoption agreement or email Nancee for more information.

KAYAK

Kayak is a one and a half year old, neutered male who was a stray in AL.  He went to the shelter there and tested positive for heartworm.  Kayak traveled up to JNMRF and  was treated for his heartworm disease.  He is ready for adoption and looking forward to a home of his own.  He is currently at a foster kennel in NJ.  He is good with other dogs but very lively - typical for a young elkhound.  If pushed by another dog, he will push back.  He has not shown aggression to cats and had been housebroken prior to his kennel stay.  Kayak is a smart young man who had lived with a young female during his adventures as a stray.  His female friend has already found a home and we hope that Kayak will be just as lucky.  He is small for a male, weighing about 30 lbs.  Kayak needs a fenced yard and will dash out of a door.  Knows doggie doors!  His eyes are a lovely lighter brown and stand out against his handsome dark face.  He loves cuddling and is good with everyone he's met.  If you think Kayak might be a great addition to your home, please click here to fill out an adoption application.  He's waiting to meet you!

MURPHY

Murphy is a small, young, neutered male dog who might have some dwarf elkhound or Valhund in him.   A DNA test indicated that he is about half Shih Tzu and then a mix.   Murphy is between 1½ and 2 years old.  He is a lively little boy, almost a pocketbook sized dog.  His coat resembles an elkhound on his body but his front is a brindled look and he has bowed legs similar to a bulldog.  Murphy is a very happy boy who loves to be held, runs happily with other young dogs, and often elicits the comments that he is almost catlike in his behavior when being held.  He also knows some commands and seems to be housebroken.   Murphy weighs about 20 lbs and is the size of a Shih Tzu.  He was a stray in TN when he came into rescue.  He is up to date on his shots, tested heartworm negative and has been maintained on preventative.  Murphy would love to have a home where he could run and play and be hugged.  He liked the children he met and did well with other dogs.  Seems OK with cats.   If you would like a small dog with a very different look that somehow resembles elkhound, please click here to fill out an adoption application.

COURTESY LISTING for GSNEC:

KAYA*

Kaya is a very sweet dog who has suffered the loss of both of her "parents."  She will be 10 years old in November.  Her original owners have both passed away and their remaining family members are unable to keep her.  She was purchased from a breeder in NY but the family has no information on who that might be. She is housebroken, spayed and up to date on vaccinations and heartworm preventative.  Kaya is just looking for a home where she can retire and find the loe she lost.   If you can give this charming senior a happy home, please click here to fill out an application to adopt or contact Pat at Bjornlass@aol.com for more information. Kaya is with the Garden State Norwegian Elkhound Club.

PRINCESS*

Princess is a senior lady whose owner passed away and there was no one to take her in.   She may be 9-10 years old or even a bit older.   She is doing well with another senior female and a younger male.   She definitely perks up with other elkhounds to share her space with.   Princess always has the tip of one ear bent which gives her a quizzical look.   She is sweet and slightly stubborn in that "old girl" way.   She is spayed and housebroken.   If you think you have the right home for this sweet senior, please click here to fill out an application to adopt.     If you can't adopt, consider sponsoring this little love.

VALKYRIE*

Valkyrie is a sweet 9-10 yr old girl looking for a quiet home where she won't have to compete with other pets.  She is not good with young children or with smaller dogs.  Val is a larger girl who is a bit overweight right now.  She loves her toys and will protect them from other critters.  She walks well on a leash, adores being petted, and is hoping to find an owner who will be happy to have her as a quiet companion.  Her best home is with adults only.  If you have a home where Val can relax and adore you, please click here to fill out an adoption application.  She is waiting for you.

SMOKIE* - blind dog

Smokie is a sweet boy, maybe 8 yrs old, who needs to go into just the right home environment.  Blind in one eye, he may see shadows in the other.  His sight impairment appears to have been developing for a while.  For that reason, he needs a patient family willing to learn or accustom to dealing with this handicap because he will need to get adjusted to a new environment.  A calm and gentle canine companion might be good for him as well.  If you are looking for a special dog who needs you, please click here to fill out the adoption application and mention his name.

INGA*

Inga is a senior sweetheart, was 10 years old on Aug. 3, and is looking for her retirement home.   Her lifelong owner passed away last year and she has been in foster care since then.  Inga is spayed and up to date on her vaccines.  Her coat is beautiful and shiny and she loves to run in the fenced yard.  She is good around other dogs as long as they are not aggressive to her.  She tends to ignore cats unless they tease her and then it is a matter of chasing.   She isn't the aggressor but will defend herself if challenged.  Inga is housebroken and loyal and protective.  She would be best with no small children and would love to be the only dog so she could get all the attention.   If you could open your home and heart to Inga, please call the Central Counties PSPCA in Centre Hall at 814-364-1725 or email them at tklinefelter@pspca.org to find out more about Inga.
